I Saw the TV Glow (2024)
Early into I Saw the TV Glow, Maddy (Jack Haven) sets a boundary with new friend Owen (Justice Smith): She likes girls, not boys. “What about you, do you like girls?” she asks. He stutters. “I don’t know. I think that I like TV shows.” Thus, the two escape into The Pink Opaque, a Buffy-esque program where suburban life – and the identities they’ve yet to get a handle on – can’t hurt them. Of course, nonbinary director Jane Schoenbrun knows, you can’t run away from yourself forever.
